| Children/Education
Founded in 1841, Punahou School was designed originally to provide a quality education to the children of Congregational missionaries, allowing them to stay in Hawai'i with their families, instead of being sent away to school. The first class had 15 students. Today, this coeducational college preparatory day school enrolls over 3,750 students. We are nonsectarian but retain our Christian heritage. Currently, Punahou is divided into the Junior School (Kindergarten through grade 8) and the Academy (grades 9 through 12). The breadth and depth of the curriculum is supported by a robust wireless infrastructure and integrated technology tools, three libraries and a wide variety of media services. We also provide a rich and diverse arts program as well as a very successful athletic program that includes a long record of interscholastic athletic accomplishment for both boys and girls.
