Unlike many of our other organs and systems, our brain and nervous system and the disorders that affect them are still very much a mystery. Our goal is to find out what causes these diseases and to discover treatments – and ultimately cures. We are based in Sydney, Australia and currently total over 260 researchers. Previously known as the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, we launched our new identity on 1 June 2010. We believe our work is crucial because brain and nervous system diseases and injuries affect many Australians – more than you probably think.

The Prince's Trust is a charity that believes in young people who often don't believe in themselves. We seek out those young people that need our help the most and work with young people who struggle at school, are in or leaving care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. We work with young people aged 14-30 to help them get back into work, education and training. We give practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. We have helped more than 600,000 young people since 1976 and support 100 more each working day. More than three in four young people we helped last year moved into work, education or training.

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation focuses on the practice of sports as a vector for children’s education and development. Its main objective is to save lives by preventing drowning. Numerous programmes — “Learn to Swim” and “Water Safety” — are being developed internationally. The mission is to raise public awareness by making children aware of the dangers associated with water, by teaching life-saving techniques that they can then teach to other people. In 2008, the World Health Organisation recorded 400 deaths of children through drowning every day in the world.* In 2012, the number of people who drowned in the world every day was 1.063.** These figures show how important it is to take preventive action. The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation is all about altruism and the idea of sharing through the values of sport — discipline, respect for oneself and others, learning to make an effort and instilling team spirit. The Foundation also helps promising young sports talents who lack means – mostly financial – to realise their sports projects through the attribution of grants. Sometimes, projects related to children and promoting the values of sport can benefit from financial help. The Foundation is supported by a network of Ambassadors who spread these values in their respective countries; they help set up new projects and look out for new young talents. * Reproduced with the publisher’s permission - World Report on Child Injury Prevention: résumé. The Princess Louisa International Society raises funds to maintain and develop the Princess Louisa Inlet Marine Park: to provide additional and enhanced facilities; to acquire additional lands within Princess Louisa Inlet for dedication as Park; to preserve and protect the unique marine and upland environment of the Inlet for the benefit of all. As the Princess Louisa International Society prepares to enter the 21st Century, our members look back at this last 100 years with admiration, awe, and respect for the incredible impact that one man, James F. MacDonald, had on the fortunes and future of the Inlet.

Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation is the principal fundraising body for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH), providing the hospital with vital medical equipment and specialist services, as well as implementing capital projects. Since the Foundation was established in 1998 we have granted more than $25 million to PMH, with funds directed into priority areas. In recent years, major funding has been allocated to the establishment of the Children’s Rehabilitation Centre, Adolescent Centre and ongoing research. The Foundation has also provided over a quarter of the equipment currently used by the hospital. The Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life of all sick West Australian children. Increased demand on the hospital’s facilities, and the rapid advancement of modern medical technology, means realising this goal is a never-ending task. We thank the community for helping us make this mission a reality.

Prison Fellowship, founded by Chuck Colson, reaches out to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their families both as an act of service to Jesus Christ and as a contribution to restoring peace to our cities and communities endangered by crime. The best way to transform our communities is to transform the people within those communities. We believe that at its core, crime is a moral and spiritual problem. Out of distorted character values, people make poor moral choices that cause harm and destruction. Therefore, authentic and lasting change must take place from the inside out—beginning with a reconciled relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Then, as people learn more about the truth and power of Christ, they learn to think in a new way, act in a new way, and relate to others in a new way. Most of the time, a man walks out of prison with nothing more than an old set of clothes and a few dollars. Not much to start a new life outside. He desperately needs a job, and first impressions mean everything. If he looks like a prospective employee, he’ll have a better chance of actually getting hired. And if he’s dressed well, he’ll also have more confidence to talk about how the change on the outside reflects a much deeper change on the inside.

Human Rights
Since the 1990s, the Prison Reform Trust has worked with allied agencies, and former and serving prisoners to ensure that people in prison are treated as such – as people – and this includes acknowledging their right to vote. The UK can take pride in a prison service that requires everyone in prison to be treated with decency and respect, regardless of the crime they have committed or the length of their sentence. Denying prisoners the right to vote has no place in a civilised justice system.

Pro-Natura is tackling the social, economic and environmental problems that face rural communities in the Developing World. The aim is to provide viable economic alternatives to those people struggling to make a living from imperilled environments. This is achieved by building local capacity and establishing participative governance, so that the preservation and restoration of natural resources can be linked to local economic success. Delivering sustainability is a complex challenge and Pro-Natura’s strength lies in the network of in-house and 3 rd party experts it can deploy to build the local capacity needed to implement integrated solutions. The network is backed up by an experienced executive management team and a world-class Advisory Board. Our vision is to see a Nigerian society where people have a more meaningful and greater influence on decisions that impact on their livelihoods and development.

Progressio has undergone many changes in its 70 years, but we have always stayed true to our core values and our determination to speak out against injustice and help eradicate poverty. Although The Sword initially focused on oppression in eastern Europe, it began to widen its attention to the international stage and to address issues such as food aid and human rights. We ask groups that authentically represent poor and marginalised people what help they need in order to tackle poverty. Then we send highly-skilled people to work with grassroots organisations in developing countries. Together, they do what is needed to improve the lives of thousands of people in poor communities.

Progressio Ireland was established in 2004 as part of Progressio, an international development agency established in 1941 with offices in Dublin and London. We work at tackling the root causes of poverty by helping people in poor countries build sustainable livelihoods. We work in 11 of the world’s poorest countries. Progressio Ireland's work is implemented through our development worker programme. Development Workers are based in local communities where they build the skills of partner organizations in a skill-share system.

Everyone in agriculture knows someone whose life has been affected by a farm-related injury or death. The statistics are sobering. Even more tragic is that most of these accidents could have been prevented if simple safety precautions had been followed. At the heart of this effort is the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program, a one-day hands-on workshop that teaches farm children and their parents safe farm practices. Each year, Progressive Agriculture Safety Days® reach more than 60,000 children and adults across the country.

The Project Athena Foundation will give scholarships (aka “Athenaships”) to one or more applicants on a quarterly basis. This depends on the level of donations, of course, but we’re sure it won’t take too long for our friends, family and the community to embrace this endeavor! 100% of public donations to the Project Athena Foundation will be used to help survivors live their adventurous dreams. We will assist with entry fees, airfare, coaching, specialized equipment, etc, in an attempt to help survivors reach their goals. The athletes and coaches of the Project Athena Racing Team will provide ongoing training, coaching, and inspiration (Free! Yay!) to Athenaship Recipients. We will also attend several of the events and make our new friends feel like the superstars that they are! Each Athenaship Recipient will receive a Project Athena Racing jersey for their special event. This will be a reminder to the athletes and those around them to always try to see “challenges” in life and not “roadblocks”.
